 The Omalley's

Mr. Omalley is a Refrigerator factory owner  from Chicago.  With the booming economy of the 1920s Mr. Omalley has sold refrigerators like hot cakes.  He borrowed money to expand his factory and increased production.  In order to boost sales of his refrigerators he has allowed people and stores to pay for them in installments.  The interest he earns on the delayed payments makes up for the loss of money at the point of sale.  Everbody ultimately pays off the the refrigerator because the economy is so good and they all have money.

It's October 30th, 1929, and yesterday the stock market crashed. This is said to cause many people to loose alot of money and buisnesses. Hopefully, it does not effect Mr.Omalley, because he has had the best business around and has invested in a lot of money. Once the letter hit his business he got so worried. He began to cut his employers because he did not have the money to pay them. Mr. Omally had a family of 12 kids, a wife, three dogs, and a fish tank full of high quality fish. He started to stress about how he was going to maintain this business while maintaining his time to take care of his family. This is when he finally had enough.

Mrs. Omally was realizing how much her husband was acting weird. His mood swings were enormous, as well as he started to become abusive from the stress. Due to the stock market crash people couldnt pay their credit towards the Omally's Refrigerator business. Mr. Omally decieded to take matters into his own hands and contact his customers in person. Once his customers refused to pay the debt, Mr. Omally knew it was over. He went to West Cape May's mobile station and purchased 1,000 gallons of gasoline and then went to the liqour store to purchase 10 bottles of gin.

Mr. Omalley showed up at his bussiness very intoxicated! He poured most of the gasoline everywhere possible. When he began to light a match he heard a sign of god, police sirens were blaring his ears from the backround and a police officer walks up to let him know that he is going to jail for smuggling refrigerators and selling them illegaly with no license. Now his plan to destory his business to collect money from the insurence company, has been runined. He was then arrested and put in jail with a bail of $2,000.

Due to Mr.Omally getting put in jail, his family was left with nothing except their house. They got a letter in the mail that told them they had 24 hours to evacuate; therefore they only had their range rover left. They decided to go say goodbye to their business that was left drenched in gasoline. They decided to take the left over cans of gasoline with them so they could get far enough to seek a new job. After 16 hours, they landed in the town Springfield where the Agriculture Adjustment Act began to brighten their new begining. They worked on a farm for 14 hours a day, 7 days a week for 2 years while they slept in the range rover, and ate potatoe peels. They finally raised enough money to bail their loving father and husband out of jail. While they were there, the youngest child, only three years old,Johnny, died from starvation.

Before they left, the oldest son requested that he stay back and work to continue to build up money for the family. That next morning, the rest of the family set out for Chicago to bail Mr. Omally out of jail. Once they got him, they all headed back to Springfield to work on the farm. After a couple months, they gained enough money to buy a house. The father became known as the president of the Works Progress Administration which quickly created as many jobs as possible for other low income families. Eventually, the Omally's came together and raised enough money to open up a new legal Refrigerator business in Springfield. They all lived happily ever after. And RICH !
