Friar John:  Holy Franciscan Friar!  Brother!  Hello!

Friar Lawrence:  That sounds like Friar John's voice.  Welcome home from Mantua.  What did Romeo say?  Or, if his message is written, let me have his letter.

Friar John:  I went looking for a fellow-Franciscan to go with me.  He was visiting the sick.  After I found him, the health officers, suspecting we were in the house infected by the plauge, boarded up the doors, and wouldn't let us out.  So I couldn't go to Mantua.

Friar Lawrence:  Who took the letter to Romeo, then?

Friar John:  I couldn't send it - here it is.  Dont bother getting a messenger to deliver it for you, they are afraid of the plauge too.

Friar Lawrence:  What bad luck!  By my holy order, this wasn't a trivial letter, but one containing instructions of the most serious importance.  Not to act on them could have dangerous consequences.  Friar John - go - get me an iron crowbar, and bring it to my cell right away.

Friar John:  I will go and bring one to you.

Friar Lawrence:  I must go to a tomb alone.  Within the next three hours, Juliet will wake up.  She will kill me when she finds out Romeo doesn't know about the plan.  I will write again to Mantua and keep her at my cell until Romeo comes.  Poor living corpse!  Closed in a dead man's tomb!
